Library Manager

Our Library is a lively community hub, that is inclusive and diverse.

The Librarian is responsible for implementing the Board’s Plan of Service through consistent operations for all areas of library service and operation in coordination with Library staff as necessary. This involves planning, developing, managing, organizing, evaluating, and actively engaging in the day-to-day functioning of the Library. The Librarian will operate within the framework of the Edson Library Board’s goals and objectives, policies, directives, budget, and the Libraries Act and Regulation. The Librarian is committed to upholding the Canadian Federation of Library Association’s position statements on Intellectual Freedom and Diversity and Inclusion.

Position Reports to: The Edson Library Board.  The Board Chair shall serve as the liaison between the Board and the Librarian between Board meetings.

Reports to Position:  All other library employees and library volunteers report to the Librarian.


  • Manage the day to day operation of the library
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Board’s Plan of Service
  • Manage finances, banking activities and financial reporting
  • Proactively manage the provision of all services
  • Ensure library programming addresses community needs and interests
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, coach, evaluate and discipline staff
  • Build and develop relationships in the community
  • Promote library services
  • Maintain a good working relationship with the Library Board

Qualifications:  Master’s in Library and/or Information Sciences (MLIS) from an ALA accredited institution

Salary and Benefits:

The salary and benefit package will be based on management experience and qualifications. 

The successful applicant must have a current drivers’ license, access to a vehicle and be available to work up to 40 hours per week. A thorough knowledge of computer operations is required.
