Temporary Full Time Summer Reading Program Assistant

JOB DESCRIPTION: Full-time/temporary Summer Reading Program Assistant

SCOPE OF OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY: To develop programming for children and run the Summer Reading Club. To assist, organize and re-shelve materials; to provide positive and friendly customer service to all members of the public; to work cooperatively with staff; to assist in providing a safe, respectful environment.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop programming for children.
  • Manage children during programming.
  • Shelf reading.
  • Wash, sort and shelve materials that have been returned.
  • Assist with processing new materials.
  • Check for damaged library books and repair as needed.
  • Assist with special projects.
  • Assist with inter-library loans.
  • Perform any clerical duties as required.
  • Tidy Library at the end of each shift.
  • Any other duties as required by the Librarian.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Youth (age 15-30) in accordance with the Canada Summer Job Grant.
  • Previous library experience an asset.
  • Demonstrate good work ethics, reliability and communication skills.
  • Ability to alphabetize and put things in numerical order.
  • Ability to work as a team player.

EXPECTATION OF CONDUCT:

  • The employee is aware of the Edson and District Public Library mission, goals and objectives.
  • The employee will act in a professional manner as a member of the Edson and District Public Library team.
  •  The employee is able to work independently within the parameters and towards goals set by the Head Librarian.
  • All matters of the Edson and District Public Library will be kept in strict confidence.
  • Must be available 8 hours/day Monday-Friday with Friday evening (6 pm).
  • This is a full-time, temporary position that will end on August 19, 2022.

Remuneration: $17/hour
