JOB DESCRIPTION: Full-time/temporary Summer Reading Program Assistant
SCOPE OF OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY: To develop programming for children and run the Summer Reading Club. To assist, organize and re-shelve materials; to provide positive and friendly customer service to all members of the public; to work cooperatively with staff; to assist in providing a safe, respectful environment.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop programming for children.
- Manage children during programming.
- Shelf reading.
- Wash, sort and shelve materials that have been returned.
- Assist with processing new materials.
- Check for damaged library books and repair as needed.
- Assist with special projects.
- Assist with inter-library loans.
- Perform any clerical duties as required.
- Tidy Library at the end of each shift.
- Any other duties as required by the Librarian.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Youth (age 15-30) in accordance with the Canada Summer Job Grant.
- Previous library experience an asset.
- Demonstrate good work ethics, reliability and communication skills.
- Ability to alphabetize and put things in numerical order.
- Ability to work as a team player.
EXPECTATION OF CONDUCT:
- The employee is aware of the Edson and District Public Library mission, goals and objectives.
- The employee will act in a professional manner as a member of the Edson and District Public Library team.
- The employee is able to work independently within the parameters and towards goals set by the Head Librarian.
- All matters of the Edson and District Public Library will be kept in strict confidence.
- Must be available 8 hours/day Monday-Friday with Friday evening (6 pm).
- This is a full-time, temporary position that will end on August 19, 2022.
Remuneration: $17/hour
