Cenovus Energy Donates Office Space

Nov. 28, 2023

EDSON, AB – November 28, 2023 – Thanks to the generosity of Cenovus Energy, the Edson & District Public Library has a temporary home while renovations are being completed on the library.

“With this generous in-kind donation by Cenovus, we are able to continue to serve the people in our community,” said Robin Corser, Library Board Chair. “Our library is the second most-used facility in town, but without Cenovus’ generosity, the renovation would have prevented us from offering accessible services to our patrons.”

The temporary library space is located at 5016-4th Avenue. It is open Monday-Friday from 10am-6pm, and Saturday from 12noon-5pm.

The library moved a carefully curated collection to the donated office space in September. The new location provides space for public-access computers, a limited on-site collection, and library staff.

“If the book or video game you’re looking for isn’t on location, library members can still order materials for pick up,” said Robin. “Our library staff can show people how to use TRAC (material ordering software) to access the full range of resources we offer.”

Library renovations are well underway. A new fundraising campaign has been launched to appropriately furnish the new spaces including an enlarged children’s area, dedicated teen zone and quiet room.

“The capital budget did not include furnishings, such as chairs and tables,” said Robin. “We are appealing to companies and individuals to help us outfit the new library spaces.”

The Library Board is seeking a total of $250,000 to buy chairs, couches, tables, shelving, and other furniture needed for their new and renovated spaces. Donors are asked to contact the library if they wish to contribute to the library’s campaign.

The renovated library is set to open in June 2024.
